YOU by Caroline Kepnes (2014)
Meet Joe. The person you will have the pleasure of being in his complete thoughts while you read this book. Joe isn't someone you want to root for or your typical protagnist. Honestly, he is a psycho stalker...yet, with a heart? Can I even whisper that of a murderer?
I give props to Caroline writing from a male perspective. She pulled it off effortlessly, and with some craziness. The inner dialogue of Joe alone is pretty entertaining. Too smart for his own good. I love that Miss Kepnes lets him "go there and beyond" with such unapologetic freedom and crass.
What would you do for love? That question is put to test when a bookstore manager meets an inspiring writer, and a quick crush becomes and even quicker obsession.
From using social media and the internet, every skill is used to track her down and even "get rid" of certain "obstacles".
It shows, if you have a Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or basically a life, its trackable on the internet. Never have we made it more easy to stalk or.....to be stalked. Joe takes it to a new level making it basically, a new art form.
Been token the 'Gone Girl's for the YA, I can maybe see why. No extreme twist like GG but the strong unlikeable traits of these characters seems to be the new trend. How far are we going to go into rooting for these broken yet distasteful people?
"My whole life, I've never felt at home, my whole life I've wondered why other people seem to be able to set themselves up with a job, with family, with friends. Every year, my dad would bring a Christmas tree home and my mom would get angry and drag it onto the sidewalk. Everyone at school knew; we were the weirdos who toss our tree on the street before Christmas." - Joe
