"The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo" - by Taylor Jenkins Reid (2017)

"The truth had been there for them to grab if they'd paid attention. I had been my truest self, searching for the help of my best friend to ease the pain of the loss of my lover..." - Evelyn Hugo

I would like to personally thank my sister, Nicole wrapping this book in holiday paper and putting it under the Christmas tree with my name on it. If she hadn't, I would have missed one heck of a novel, and a fantastic writer in Miss Taylor Jenkins Reid.
You see, I had come across this book a few times, tempted to buy it, since it takes place in flashbacks of a fictional Old Hollywood... promising a twist at the end! Which, I do love any and all things Old Hollywood. They are always a fun, easy, exciting read. Even the cover alone screams out lush and glamour. Sadly, I must admit, I didn't bite, assuming it had all been done, written, and read before. And while that is quite true, this book proved me wrong in a tremendous way. Kudos for giving not one, but two great shockers!! Okay, one of them I figured out right before its "big reveal" and that felt juicy enough to have it confirmed I was right!

Don't let the title fool you, the book isn't really about seven husbands.  Yes, they are there and move the story along of course, and they do add layers and mark milestones in Miss Hugo's professional and personal life, yet there is a bigger secret laying underneath all that. This story, half way through, had me throw out all the obvious choices or whatever even was left and have to trust the windy, yet focused path it was forcefully taking me.

I enjoyed every minute of the ride and I hope you may jump on, too! In a perfect world, I would love to produce this in a TV mini series. Not a film, there is too much that must be said and kept in. I will not compromise. These are already potential stereotyped characters yet with far more depth that is ever given these 'types'. I thank Miss Taylor Jenkins Reid for that. To not take the lazy way out...and give these characters an iconic place in literature...and hopefully if I have my way, a place on screen.

"...But of course, they got it wrong. They never did care about getting it right. The media are going to tell whatever story they want to tell. They always have. They always will." - Evelyn Hugo
