The Guest Book- By Sarah Blake (2019)

    Family Secrets.
A private family island, with a grandiose beach house.
Challenging human standards in a time of rife.
Do you still hold onto the past glamour when you find out what darkness kept it flowing?
Sarah Blake weaves a traditional family story crossing over the decades with those questions slowly bubbling up to the surface. A sort of fall of Camelot tale in the heart of an elite Wasp American family. What I enjoyed most about this book was how it pulled you into a family that wasn't your own, but kept you emotionally invested... and emotionally torn.
Blake has a true talent of having you see through the eyes of the supposed  "antagonist" its turmoil and understand their choices, even if its one that is not right. Its a true tale of how the choices our ancestors make have an impact on us later in life. When we live in a different, and evolved world....and a reminder that our choices we make today can and most likely will, effect our future blood generations.
There is so much to say about this book, and rightfully so, with the epic story unfolding and close to 500 pages long...yet, I don't want to spoil any moment of the journey for you. Pick up the book, find a beach or a rainy day to start...and try to stop. You will go back to your day, only to hear the whisper of the next chapters beckoning you...like the waves on a cool, clear day. I can't say it will be your favorite, but its riveting...and a great book for your next book club, or book buddy. Its a hidden classic that showcases a perfect blend of timelessness and modern, and should make its way not only into your home, but classrooms around the world.
